KALIMPONG

Ridges where we play

67 Km from Siliguri, Kalimpong is a beautiful hill-town in North Bengal which can be reached from either Siliguri or Darjeeling. It is popular for its panoramic valley views, Buddhists monasteries, churches and Tibetan handicrafts. As per the Lepchas, Kalimpong means 'ridge where we play'. It is said that these local tribesmen used to organise field sports when they weren't engaged in agricultural pursuit hence it is the named so.

By Road

Kalimpong is well connected by road with Siliguri, Gangtok, Kolkata and Darjeeling. Regular buses from Darjeeling, Gangtok and Siliguri ply to Kalimpong.

By Train

Kalimpong does not have its own railway station and the nearest railhead is New Jalpaiguri Station. This is a very important railway station of North Bengal and direct trains from Kolkata, Delhi and New Jalpaiguri. Pre-paid taxis are available outside the station and can be availed to reach Kalimpong.

By Air

The nearest airport to Kalimpong is Bagdogra in Siliguri. All major domestic airlines from various Indian cities offer good connectivity between Bagdogra and rest of India. Direct flights to Bagdogra are available from Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati. Local taxis can be availed from outside the airport to reach Kalimpong.
